Michigan Supreme Court: Police Search of Passenger’s Personal Property is Unconstitutional | Paul Armentano

The warrantless search of a passenger’s personal property during a traffic stop is unconstitutional, according to a ruling by the Michigan Supreme Court. The judgement overturns a 2007 decision that barred passengers from challenging similar searches by members of law enforcement. Justices unanimously opined that the driver’s voluntary consent to allow the police to search her vehicle […]

With Marijuana Policy and Democratic Presidential Candidates, Joe Biden is the Odd Man Out | Phillip Smith

The ever-swelling field of Democratic presidential contenders has plenty of things to disagree about and plenty of issues where candidates can try to set themselves apart from the pack. Bob Marley’s son to open a medical cannabis dispensary

Rohan Marley, son of late legendary reggae singer and cannabis enthusiast Bob Marley, has announced his intention to open a medical cannabis dispensary in Montclair, New Jersey.

In partnership with Colorado-based dispensary chain Lightshade, Rohan Marley has completed an application for one of the state’s 15 retail licences.

If the application gets state’s approval, Marley will aid marketing and publicity efforts and contribute to the hiring process.

Although recreational cannabis is still prohibited in New Jersey (residents will vote on the matter in 2020), opening a dispensary for medical cannabis, which has been legal in the state for some time, became easier this past spring as the potential for adult-use legalization loomed.

“In Jamaica, my family has long been advocating about the medicinal benefits of marijuana and its many pathways to treatment well before its medical and recreational legalization into the U.S.,” Marley stated in a press release.

Jersey is an unsurprising location for Marley to set up shop, as he has raised his five children with hip-hop superstar Lauryn Hill in Essex County.

Cannabis and the Marley name are closely linked. His father Bob, who died nearly 40 years ago, was one of the most prominent devotees of Rastafari, an Africa-centred religion developed in Jamaica in the 1930s, which regards cannabis as a holy sacrament

It is yet unknown when licences will be approved by the New Jersey Department of Health.

Cannabis is not Marley’s first foray into the business world, having already founded sustainable, organic coffee company Marley Coffee. He is also involved in the family cannabis company Marley Natural.
