Nova Scotia to sell recreational marijuana at only nine locations

Recreational cannabis in Nova Scotia will be sold at nine government-owned liquor stores pending Canada’s nationwide legalization this summer.

The retail plan overlooks two major population areas, however.

The southern part of the province and Annapolis Valley, which represent over a quarter of Nova Scotia’s population, will be without retail outlets.

The province said last month that online sales will also be offered and Nova Scotians will be allowed to grow up to four plants per household.

Neighboring New Brunswick will sell recreational cannabis in 20 government-run stores, even though it has a lower population.

The federal bill to legalize cannabis was approved in the House of Commons in December and is currently before the Senate for further study.
