In another delay for Maine’s recreational marijuana industry, a legalization panel has voted to delay marijuana social clubs until 2023.
The Marijuana Legalization Implementation Committee voted 5-1 to stall social club licensing, the Portland Press Herald reported.
Committee members said they want to wait so Maine can learn from other states looking to implement cannabis social clubs and gather more information.
Paul McCarrier, president of marijuana advocacy group Legalize Maine, says the social club delay is “one part of a many-part process to get to ‘yes.’”
It’s still another delay for Maine’s recreational program.
Though Maine voters approved adult-use cannabis in 2016, it now looks as if the industry won’t launch until 2019.
