Mexico to allow sales of marijuana-based products in 2018

Mexico has approved the sale of cannabis-based products, but without any licensed cannabis businesses, the goods must be imported.

The Central American country legalized selling cannabis-derived medicine, food, beverages, makeup and other products next year, according to Reuters.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • Mexico legalized cannabis for medical and scientific uses in June but hasn’t approved growing the plant or adult use.
  • Rules for the sale of cannabis products are expected to be released soon, and the products could hit the market in a month.
  • Besides imported products, there’s a belief that some goods will be produced in Mexico with cannabis grown in other countries.
  • Several other Latin America nations have legalized marijuana, including Uruguay, Argentina, Chile, Colombia and Peru.
